Vanraj Andekar Murder Case: 21 Accused Charged in 1,700-Page Chargesheet
The Pune Police Crime Branch has filed a massive 1,700-page chargesheet against 21 accused in the murder of former NCP corporator Vanraj Suryakant Andekar. The chargesheet, submitted to Special Judge V.R. Kachare on Friday, marks a significant development in the case that has been linked to gang rivalry and property disputes.
Prominent accused include gangster Somnath Gaikwad and Andekar’s sister Sanjeevani, her husband Jayant, brother-in-law Ganesh, and Prakash Komkar. They have been charged under the Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MCOCA).
Police seized eight pistols, seven bullets, seven machetes, three cars, and seven two-wheelers. The accused sourced weapons from Madhya Pradesh and were arrested while hiding in Raigad district. The chargesheet includes statements of 39 witnesses, technical analysis of communications, and CCTV footage.
The murder stemmed from financial and familial disputes. Sanjeevani blamed Andekar for the demolition of her shop in Nana Peth and conspired with Gaikwad for revenge. Additionally, the killing avenged the 2023 murder of Gaikwad’s associate, Nikhil Akhade, by Andekar’s gang.
Two juvenile accused were charged separately in the Juvenile Justice Board. The case is ongoing, with the prosecution building a strong case against the accused.
