Pune Municipal Corporation Cracks Down on Tax Defaulters, Seizes Properties Worth ₹47 Crore
In a major crackdown on tax defaulters, the Pune Municipal Corporation’s tax collection and assessment department has taken stringent action against defaulters, including seizing properties worth ₹47 crore 43 lakh 18 thousand 303. The department has also formed special squads to recover pending taxes from defaulters.
The action was taken against Sinhgad Technical Institute, which had pending property tax of ₹47 crore 43 lakh 18 thousand 303. The institute has properties in Kondhwa Budruk, Ambegaon Budruk, and Erandwane.
Madhav Jagtap, head of the tax collection and assessment department, said that the department has formed special squads to recover pending taxes from defaulters. “We have formed special squads to recover pending taxes from defaulters. We have also included a band squad to create awareness among taxpayers,” he said.
The department has set a target to recover ₹1,804 crore in property tax from 14 lakh 80 thousand properties in the municipal limits. So far, ₹1,804 crore has been recovered from 8 lakh 74 thousand 546 property holders.
Jagtap appealed to property holders who have not paid their taxes yet to pay them immediately and avoid action. The department will take strict action against defaulters in the coming days, he warned.
In the last five days, the department has taken action against 165 properties and recovered ₹14 crore 14 lakh 26 thousand 212 in pending taxes.
