Pune Congress Demands Justice and Safety for Women After IT Sector Murder

A horrific incident in Viman Nagar, Pune, has sent shockwaves across the city, as a female IT sector employee was brutally murdered due to alleged negligence. This heinous crime has raised serious concerns about law and order in Pune, particularly the safety of women working in the IT sector.

In response to this tragedy, the Pune City Youth Congress, led by President Saurabh Amarale, submitted a statement to the Pune Police Commissioner, highlighting the security lapses at the IT company and emphasizing the need for enhanced safety measures, especially for female employees.

The Youth Congress urged immediate action to prevent such incidents in the future. They also submitted a statement to WNS Global Services, pointing out significant security lapses, including lack of weapon screening, insufficient CCTV surveillance, inadequate lighting, untrained security personnel, and no emergency response protocols. It remains unclear whether proper background checks were conducted on the male employee involved.

These lapses highlight the company’s non-compliance with employee safety regulations under the Occupational Safety, Health, and Working Conditions Code, 2020, and the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace Act, 2013.

The Pune City Youth Congress has demanded that WNS conducts an internal inquiry, strengthens security measures, deploys trained security personnel, ensures proper lighting and CCTV coverage, establishes emergency response protocols, enforces mandatory background checks on employees, and conducts regular workplace safety training.

Additionally, the Youth Congress submitted a statement to the Regional Labour Commission, demanding immediate action, including an investigation into the company’s negligence, penalties for failing to ensure employee safety, and the implementation of mandatory safety measures.

The Ministry’s prompt action is crucial to ensuring justice for the victim and preventing future incidents. The Pune City Youth Congress has extended its support for the cause, with President Saurabh Amarale, Vice President Saddam Shaikh, and other office bearers demanding justice and safety for women working in the IT sector.
