Pune Book Fair: Rickshaw Driver Returns Elderly Man’s Priceless Collection

At the Pune Book Fair, an elderly man’s life-long collection of authors’ signatures and letters was left behind in a rickshaw. The rickshaw driver, Yunus Pathan, demonstrated exceptional honesty by returning the collection.

Satish Pendharkar, 74, had accumulated signatures and letters from over 100 prominent Marathi authors, poets, and writers since he was 26. His collection included laminated signatures and messages from 52 notable personalities.

The Incident-

After visiting the Pune Book Fair, Pendharkar forgot his bag in the rickshaw. Pathan found the bag and contacted Pendharkar using a mobile number found inside. The next day, Pathan returned the bag to Pendharkar at the book fair entrance.

Pendharkar was overcome with emotion, struggling to hold back tears. “This collection is my life’s treasure,” he said.

Pathan’s honesty has restored Pendharkar’s faith in humanity. Pendharkar praises Pathan’s actions, saying, “His actions have restored my faith in humanity.”

Pendharkar showcases his collection in schools, sharing stories about the authors and inspiring interest in Marathi literature among students.

Police Sub Inspector Rajesh Lonkar and Sub-Inspector Subhash Sudrik appreciated Pathan’s honesty and commended his actions.

Pathan remained humble, saying, “I simply did what was right.”

This heartwarming incident highlights the importance of honesty and kindness in today’s society.
