PMPML Considers Fare Hike as Losses Mount to ₹750 Crore

Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) is considering a proposal to increase ticket prices due to a massive loss of ₹750 crore. The administrative expenses, including employee salaries, have increased significantly, leading to this deficit.

PMPML has been serving the city of Pune for many years, providing an essential transportation service. However, with increasing expenses and limited revenue options, the organization is facing financial difficulties. The last time PMPML increased ticket prices was eight years ago. To address this financial crunch, the administration is exploring options, including a fare hike.

This move is expected to impact the daily commute of ordinary citizens, making their travel more expensive. PMPML’s financial struggles are not new. The organization has been relying on financial support from the Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporations. However, this support is not sufficient to cover the deficit. In recent years, PMPML has introduced new services, such as the “Yatra Special” buses, which offer additional amenities but come with a higher fare. However, these initiatives have not been enough to offset the financial losses. As PMPML continues to struggle financially, the proposed fare hike is likely to have a significant impact on the daily lives of Pune’s citizens.
