Maharashtra Govt Makes Marathi Mandatory in All Schools from 2025-26
In a significant move, the Maharashtra government has announced that Marathi will be a mandatory core subject in all schools, regardless of the board or medium, starting from the 2025-26 academic year. School Education Minister Dadaji Bhuse made the announcement, emphasizing that the policy applies to all private, CBSE, ICSE, and English medium schools in the state.
The government will closely monitor compliance, and parents are encouraged to report schools that fail to implement the policy. Additionally, the School Education Department is considering testing teachers’ proficiency in Marathi to ensure effective instruction.
Bhuse stressed the importance of Marathi, highlighting its newly granted classical language status and the need to uphold its legacy through education. The minister also announced plans to develop a comprehensive roadmap for the education department to address existing challenges and implement the National Education Policy effectively.
