Kalyani Nagar and Koregaon Park Residents Demand Action Against Commercial Establishments Misusing Public Roads
Residents of Kalyani Nagar and Koregaon Park in Pune have lodged a complaint with the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, urging them to take action against commercial establishments and pubs that are misusing public roads for parking.
The complaint highlights the serious problems caused by this issue, including violations of urban planning norms, risks to public safety, and inconvenience to residents. Many establishments lack adequate parking facilities, violating city bylaws and undermining urban planning efforts.
Haphazard parking on public roads is blocking emergency services, reducing parking availability, increasing noise pollution, and disrupting neighborhood peace. Without designated parking, patrons are resorting to illegal parking, exacerbating traffic congestion and enforcement challenges.
Residents are demanding that the PMC and traffic police take immediate action against establishments without designated parking spaces, revoke trade licenses, and impose fines for illegal parking. They are also calling for regular verification of building plans and action against non-compliance with parking norms.
Yasmin Charania, a resident of Kalyani Nagar, expressed her frustration, saying, “We have raised safety concerns for years about illegal car parking in Kalyani Nagar. Rules require restaurants to provide parking, yet they flout them openly. Despite multiple complaints, authorities take no action. Women face harassment, and residents risk accidents due to drunk driving. Narrow lanes also pose a fire hazard, blocking emergency vehicles.”
