Devendra Fadnavis Takes Oath as Maharashtra Chief Minister, Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar as Deputy CMs
Maharashtra has witnessed the return of the ‘Devendra’ era, with Devendra Fadnavis taking oath as the state’s 21st Chief Minister on December 5. This development comes 13 days after the results of the Maharashtra Assembly elections were announced on November 23.
Former Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar took oath as Deputy Chief Ministers. The swearing-in ceremony was held at Mumbai’s Azad Maidan, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and other prominent leaders in attendance.
Fadnavis’s oath-taking marks the beginning of a new era in Maharashtra politics, following the Mahayuti alliance’s historic victory in the state Assembly elections. The alliance secured 230 seats out of 288, with the BJP emerging as the single-largest party with 132 seats.
Here’s the oath taken by Devendra Fadnavis:
“I, Devendra Sarita Gangadharrao Fadnavis, swear in the name of God that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the Constitution of India as by law established and that I will uphold the sovereignty and integrity of India. I will faithfully and conscientiously discharge my duties as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra and will do right to all manner of people in accordance with the Constitution and the law, without fear or favor, affection or ill-will.”
Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar also took oath as Deputy Chief Ministers, marking a significant development in the state’s politics. Ajit Pawar, the Nationalist Congress Party chief, took oath as Deputy Chief Minister for the sixth time.
