Cybercriminals Dupe Senior Citizen of ₹2.49 Lakh in Pune
A senior citizen from Parvati area in Pune was deceived by a cybercrook claiming to be a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officer. The scammer, posing as Dhीरaj Kumar, threatened to implicate the victim’s son in a rape case and demanded immediate payment to avoid arrest. The victim transferred ₹2.49 lakh to the scammer’s account after being intimidated .
The incident occurred on August 27, when the scammer contacted the senior citizen, claiming to be a CBI officer. The scammer alleged that the victim’s son would be arrested in a rape case and that family members would also be implicated. To avoid arrest, the scammer demanded immediate payment.
The senior citizen, fearing for their son’s safety, transferred the money. However, after realizing the fraud, they promptly filed a complaint at Sahakarnagar Police Station. Police are investigating and attempting to track down the cybercriminals.
