Alankar Police Crack Chain Snatching Case, Arrest Mastermind

In a swift operation, the Alankar Police Station in Pune city has solved a chain snatching case, arresting the 30-year-old mastermind, Hamid Afzar Khan, from Madhya Pradesh.

On January 22, 2025, around 6:50 am, an unidentified person snatched the gold mangalsutra of 83-year-old Sindhutai Barve-Apte while she was on her morning walk near Audumbar Building, Navsahyadri Society. The incident was captured on CCTV cameras, and the footage went viral on social media, causing concern among citizens.

Under the guidance of Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, Additional Police Commissioner Pravin Patil, and Deputy Police Commissioner Sambhaji Kadams, the Alankar Police team, led by Senior Police Inspector Sunita Rokade and Police Inspector Surekha Kahan, launched an investigation. They scrutinized over 500 CCTV footage clips from the area, gathered intelligence from confidential sources, and finally tracked down the accused.

Hamid Afzar Khan, a resident of Pathare Vashti, Loni Kalbhor, Madhya Pradesh, has a history of serious crimes, including robbery and extortion, in Madhya Pradesh. The police are investigating whether he was involved in similar crimes in Pune.

The successful investigation was a team effort, with contributions from Police Sub-Inspector Abhijit Kale, Ganesh Dikshit, Karishma Shaikh, Mahesh Nimbalkar, Police Constable Dhrij Pawar, Someshwar Yadav, and others.
