A 25-year-old lady doctor ended her life by suicide after being cheated by a man she met on a matrimonial website. The accused, Adinath Sawant (30), a resident of Sangli, posed as an unmarried man and promised to marry the victim soon.

According to the Bibwewadi police, the victim, Pallavi Popat Phadtare, was lured by Sawant, who hid his marital status and took Rs 10 lakh from her. Despite being married, Sawant registered on (link unavailable), pretending to be single.

The police stated that Pallavi’s father had initially met Sawant in Dehu but rejected him due to his suspicious behavior. However, Sawant continued to communicate with Pallavi without her father’s knowledge.

The police have arrested Sawant and are investigating the matter further.
