Fake Currency Racket Busted in Pune

The Sahakarnagar police station in Pune has cracked down on a fake currency racket, arresting five individuals and seizing ₹10,35,000 worth of counterfeit notes.

The accused, identified as Nilesh Hiramanand Virkar (33), Saifan Kayyum Patel (26), Afzal Samuddin Shaikh (19), Shaheed Jakki Kureshi (25), and Shahid alias Sonu Firoz Ansari (22), were found with 2,070 fake notes, each with a face value of ₹500.

During patrolling, Police Constables Amol Pawar and Mahesh Mandlik stopped a man walking quickly towards Swargate. When he failed to explain why he was in a hurry, the police searched him and found a bundle of fake currency in his pocket.

The investigation, led by Senior Police Inspector Chhagan Kapase, revealed that the counterfeit notes were sourced from Delhi’s Majiyababad region. The police are now probing the involvement of other individuals in the racket.

The arrests were made possible due to the diligent efforts of the Sahakarnagar police team, under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner of Police Smartana Patil. The arrest was made by Police Sub Inspector Sagar Patil, API Bapu Khutwad, Police Constables Kiran Kamble, Chandrakant Jadhav, and Bajrang Pawar.
