Safety First :IPS Sandeep Karnik’s Leadership Style Transforms Nashik

Nashik City Police has undergone a remarkable transformation under the leadership of IPS Sandeep Karnik, who took charge as Police Commissioner in November 2023. Karnik’s vision for a more efficient and community-driven police force has paid off, with a noticeable decrease in street crime and a significant increase in women’s safety and citizen security.

IPS Sandeep Karnik’s hands-on approach has been instrumental in driving this change. He regularly conducts night patrols to curb illegal activities and road romios, ensuring that the city remains safe and secure. Additionally, he has directed all 13 police stations to detect every crime, resulting in an impressive 100% detection rate for serious crimes like murder, attempted murder, and robbery.

While cracking down on social media reels of criminals, the Nashik police also initiated action against people who used Maharashtra government boards on their vehicles. The cyber cell of the Nashik police is doing great work, keeping watch on social media activities by criminals.

To enhance community policing, the IPS officer introduced a direct WhatsApp number for citizens to file complaints, ensuring prompt action. He also initiated morning walks with citizens to maintain a public network and foster trust.

The Nashik Police has launched several innovative initiatives under the officer’s guidance, including:

– Niramay Helpline: A mental health helpline service for police personnel.
– Cyber Cell: Monitoring social media to curb criminal activities.
– Special Motorcycle Theft Squad: Successfully detecting vehicle theft cases.
– Damini Squads: Providing prompt action against eve-teasing and harassment.

Recently, the sleuths of the Nashik Police chased ganja smugglers who tried to escape by driving recklessly, taking advantage of the police’s ‘stop and search’ operation on Tuesday. Out of the five suspects, the police caught one and seized 28 kg of ganja from him. The police pursued them from two directions and apprehended the suspect while being cautious.

The Nashik Police’s efforts have earned recognition from Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who appreciated the Nashik Police’s efforts in curbing drug smuggling. While maintaining law and order, detection, and prevention of crime, the top cop always prefers to take care of the mental health of his force. The Nashik police is the first to launch a mental health helpline for police.

The police commissioner’s commitment to corruption-free policing has also encouraged citizens to report incidents of policemen demanding bribes. Under Sandeep Karnik’s leadership, the Nashik Police has excelled in sports, winning several medals in the Maharashtra State Police Games 2025. His dedication to community policing and innovative approaches has made the Nashik City Police a model for other cities to follow.
